We know that social media is inundated with creators asking you to join them during their complicated 15-step skincare routine (consumerism at its finest). Oftentimes, showcasing products that don’t actually work and end up in the skincare graveyard under your bathroom sink.
But if you’re anything like us, you’ll love the ease and simplicity of a minimalist skincare routine. One that includes products containing nutrient-rich ingredients like grass-fed beef tallow. Because sometimes it’s the cleanest ingredients with the simplest routines that are the most transformative!
Whether you’re a minimalist at heart or someone who is looking to embrace low-tox skincare, we’ve got you covered! In the guide below, we’ll help you choose a skincare routine that works best for you, based on your unique skin type.

How well do you know your skin?
Before diving into a daily routine, you have to understand your skin’s needs on a basic level.
- Does your skin easily become dry or flaky?
- Do you have sensitive skin, where redness and irritation seem to be common?
- How often do you deal with breakouts or acne-prone skin?
- Or, does your skin often have an oily surface and feel tight?
Getting to know your skin, no matter which category you fall into, will help you craft an effective skincare routine that works for you, not against you, while also supporting your skin barrier.
Each Grass Fed Skin product is specially formulated to work with the most delicate skin types, offering gentle cleansing and moisturizing with real ingredients.
Whether you have acne-prone skin, sensitive skin, or your skin is dry, oily, or even tight, we’ll break down finding a skincare routine that works for you.
Which of These 5 Skincare Routines is Right for You?
There’s no one-size-fits-all when it comes to skincare. While we think everyone can benefit from nutrients in our tallow (hello vitamins A, D, E and K!), there are ways you can customize a skincare routine that works best for you!
1. Routine for the Minimalist
Whether you are a skincare minimalist or have a busy schedule packed with car rides and school drop offs, a two minute routine is all it takes to nourish your skin. The Tallow Soap Bar for cleansing, and the Tallow Face & Body Whip for moisturizing – bonus, it can also double as a makeup remover! You’ll be cleansed and moisturized with plenty of time left to spare.

2. The 4-Step Routine
If you have a little extra time during your morning or nighttime routine, this 4-step approach to skincare will allow you a built-in moment of self-care every day.
- Cleanse – Daily cleansing will help remove build up that clogs pores. This Vitamin C Cleanser is gentle enough to use twice daily to lift out impurities and gently exfoliate.
- Treat – Next, Radiance Serum applied to clean, dry skin contains high concentrates of fat soluble vitamins to nourish, hydrate and soothe.
- Moisturize – Formulated with hyaluronic acid, this Anti-Aging Balm is the last step of your routine, offering nutrient-packed tallow to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
- Protect – The skin around your eyes is thinner and more sensitive than the rest of your face, Awakening Eye Cream will brighten and revive tired, puffy eyes.

3. Acne Prone Skincare Routine
If you face some of these common challenges: breakouts, clogged pores, redness, or even an oily T-zone, you might be dealing with acne-prone skin.
- Cleanse – Our Charcoal Bar extracts impurities without overdrying the skin. We also recommend alternating with our Vitamin C Cleanser, the grapefruit oil can help prevent breakouts and the diatomaceous earth gently exfoliates while pulling out impurities.
- Treat – If you have scarring from previous breakouts, apply a layer of Primal Radiance Serum by gently patting it into the skin. This bioavailable serum contains therapeutic-grade Frankincense essential oil, which is known to reduce the appearance of scarring.
- Moisturize – While the serum is also moisturizing, we like to follow up with our Healing Honey Whip, by gently massaging it into the skin to provide an extra layer of protection for the skin barrier.
Oily & Acne Prone Skin Still Needs to Be Moisturized
There’s a common myth that if you have oily or acne-prone skin, you should avoid using products that contain oils.
Oftentimes, when skin is overdried, in response, it can begin producing more oil in order to compensate for the lack of hydration and moisture.
Truthfully, attempting to strip your skin of its natural oils (sebum) with harsh cleansers or altogether skipping out on moisturizing can have the opposite effect and cause breakouts.

4. For Dry or Tight Skin
Dealing with dry, flaky skin can be overwhelming. You’ll need to find the right balance to restore your skin’s elasticity. Proper moisturization and hydration through your skincare routine will be the best way to restore your skin’s natural glow.
- Cleanse – Find a daily cleanser that will brighten your skin without causing over dryness, like this Vitamin C Cleanser.
- Treat – Just as important as cleansing is the product you use to feed your skin. After gently patting your skin dry, add a layer of Primal Radiance Serum which has a blend of nutrient-rich ingredients like emu oil and castor oil for deep, lasting hydration.
- Moisturize – The final layer of your skincare routine should work to seal in moisture, such as this Anti-Aging Balm with Hyaluronic Acid, which will brighten and tone while protecting your skin.
- Protect & Moisturize (again!) – If your skin is extra dry you can layer the Face & Body Whip on top of the Anti-Aging Balm for even more hydration. Other tallow skincare products to consider is our Nourishing Lip Balm for dry lips and our UV Harmonizer to help protect against sun exposure.
Avoid These Pitfalls With Dry or Tight Skin
It can be tempting to exfoliate dry skin to rid yourself of flaky layers. However, over-exfoliating can have the opposite effect, and continue to strip your skin barrier of its ability to retain moisture.
Another common pitfall to avoid when caring for dry skin is applying products when your skin is completely dry. When you moisturize, your skin should be slightly damp, especially if you are using a moisturizer with hyaluronic acid.
Lastly, try to avoid extra hot water, which can strip away at your skin. Room temperature or water that is slightly warm will give your skin the gentle care it needs as it heals.

5. Skincare For Men
Skincare is for the guys too! Here’s a simple and easy 3-step skincare routine for men that focuses on skin with larger pores and frequently shaved skin.
- The Activated Charcoal Pure Tallow Soap Bar is formulated for your face and body, extracting impurities which can help reduce pore size.
- Every guy needs a good deodorant! Our Natural Deodorant provides odor control with a light and neutral scent and no toxic ingredients!
- Need something you can apply quickly after cleansing or shaving that can sooth razor burn? Our Sun Solace UV Harmonizer acts as a triple threat: moisturizer, aftershave, and sun protection!

Starting a New Skincare Routine with Sensitive Skin
The most important thing to remember when testing out a new skincare routine for sensitive skin is to take it slow!
Selecting skincare products with natural, bioavailable ingredients (elements your skin already recognizes & easily absorbs) versus those with harsh chemicals is a great way to start, even with our all-natural tallow-based skincare it’s important to incorporate new products into your skincare routine slowly.
If your skin is ultra-sensitive, start with a patch test. A small amount of product in a controlled area will tell you whether or not it’s safe to proceed with a face or full body application. After the patch test, only introduce one new product at a time, and wait a few days before introducing the next one.
Skincare Routines are Not One-Size-Fits-All
Whether your skin is oily, acne-prone, sensitive, dry & tight, or suffers from razor burn, a minimalist approach to your daily routine can meet you where you are, no toxic chemicals required.
We love a keep-it-simple approach to daily skincare, but we also understand that skincare is not one-size-fits-all.
In the warmer months, you might be focused on a cleanse and moisturizer routine, and during seasonal shifts, you may be focused on combating the cold with a daily serum or anti-aging balm.

But, as your new ancestral skincare friends, we’re here to remind you: you only need a few high-quality skincare products with natural ingredients to maintain your skin’s natural glow while warding off breakouts, redness, irritation, or oily patches.
